Annoyed by the annoying Ape NFT collection?
The Board App Yacht Club appeared on the scene in April 2021 with a collection of 10,000 non-fungible token (NFT) avatars on the Etherium blockchain. Apps attracted high-profile celebrities and climbed the crest of a crypto wave. Since then, their founding collection has skyrocketed to the moon, the current floor value of a Bored Ape NFT 98.5 ETH ($ 200k) and the total turnover in Opensea has exceeded $ 1 billion.
With the advent of board apps in Web3 and beyond, let’s explore what everyone needs to know about this amazing project.
Despite a volatile crypto market, the Board App Yacht Club (BAYC), a brand created by Yug Labs, remains as relevant as ever. The board apps journey has been remarkable and deserves respect for the accomplishments they have accomplished in the NFT space. Following the success of Bored Apes, Yuga Labs has launched two more spin-off NFT collections, Bored Ape Kennel Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club.
Then, ‘Apes v Mutants’, a free-to-play mobile game they created in collaboration with the Animoka brand. This game has served as a transformation of Apes into video games and an expansion of the digital world. More was to follow.
Continuing their expansion into the Web3 space, ApeCoin was launched earlier this year, a product of ApeCoin DAO, a company that is wholly controlled by token holders. This is an ERC-20 token from the Ethereum blockchain and will be the coin of choice in their new Metavers experience, which is currently under construction.
Speaking of which, Yuga Labs has started creating their own gamified, interoperable metavers called ‘Otherside’, which allows multiple blue-chip NFT holders (not just BAYC members) to participate in a community gaming platform.
So, an explosion of creativity and artistic brilliance has taken us to this point, and it’s all roller-coaster years apart.
Who is behind Bored Apes?
The Board Ape Yacht Club was created by Yuga Labs, consisting of four men working under the pseudonym: Gordon Gonner and Gargamel – the two main co-founders – and two additional engineers, No Sass and Emperor Tomato Ketchup.
The board app artwork, which has become so iconic in the community, is the work of a freelance artist named Seneca, who works primarily in the shadows away from the public realm. According to Nicole Muniz, CEO of Yoga Labs, Seneca has been paid “over $ 1 million” for her work.
The bored app yacht club has taken over the global media conspiracy. For example, an extended section was written about them in the prestigious New Yorker magazine and their app appeared on the front cover of Rolling Stone magazine as part of an interview / collaboration. In fact, Rolling Stone praised the famous NFT brand in the article.

Rolling Stone President and COO Gus Weiner says: “We are thrilled to be partnering with the Bored App Yacht Club. The cultural groundwall rolling stone associated with these artists is consistent with decades of movement. “
“The Board Apps’ shared love of music and counter-culture has been a great help in bringing this unique project to life.”
Recently, BuzzFeed has done some digging and reports that the real names of the two co-founders are Greg Solano (Gordon Gunner) and Wiley Arono (Gargamel). Greg and Wiley are two friends from Miami who met at a dive bar, doubled in crypto, enjoyed beer, and debated literature.
Solano, a writer, co-author of a book about the ‘World of Warcraft’ with one of the game’s designers, and perhaps his passion for influencing their current RPG project. Both he and Arno, BuzzFeed reported, are creative people who both have Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing. Apparently, only Solano has completed his MFA.
On the other hand, the currently developing Yuga Labs game is going to be a vast open-world experience that will bring to life and expand the core concept of rich apes living in a swamp club.
The creative vision of board app owners, which inspired this project, is set for 2031. All those who invested in the early days of cryptocurrency have become billionaires, and Gunnar says: “It simply came to our notice then. What will you do now that you are rich beyond your wild dreams? You’re going to hang out with a bunch of apes at a swamp club and you’re going to be weird. “
When did apes become famous?
The Bored Ape NFT collection arrived at the scene in April 2021 at 0.08 ETH (about $ 200 at the time) and after multiple high-profile approvals, Snowball took over the effect. Like Domino, they fell and the initial sale sold out within a few days, earning the team $ 2 million in revenue. Suddenly, the NFT market was flooded with annoying apps.
Since then, the board app NFT has become a status symbol among the rich and famous. Under the spell FOMO (Fear of Missing), the brand ranks among the world’s most famous celebrities, including Eminem, Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton, Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Curry and Post Malone. In addition, it can be argued that bored apes have become a proud symbol of counter culture and alternative thinking in the last year.
Why should I buy a bored Ape NFT?
So, what can you do with a bored Ape NFT? First, BAYC holders can use it as a profile picture on Twitter.
In addition, you get access to a private Discord channel, which co-founders compare to an “online dive bar”. It allows like-minded Ape enthusiasts to exchange ideas, draw graffiti and connect.
Perhaps the most interesting utility of all is that your subscription – an annoying NFT app – gives you access to exclusive in-person events and random airdrops from the party.
For example, after the launch of ApeDAO Cryptocurrency, Board App Yacht Club NFT holders famously received a random gift – a bunch of ApeCoin -. Many bored Ape holders have become rich overnight, with around $ 100,000 USD in cash in their ApeCoin. Thus, they were simply rewarded for being a part of the NFT project.
Remember, some annoyed Ape holders bought their NFTs when they were only $ 200 and thus, those who got it early and sold their ApeCoin, got huge financial rewards.
What’s next for the board app NFT project?
The Board App Yacht Club seems to be a typical NFT industry project right now. The collection has taken on a life of its own and the community is prospering In fact, pictures of the bored monkey proudly wearing are spreading around the world on Twitter. Now, this is more than a PFP phenomenon and the community believes in the future of the project.
The parent company Yuga Labs is showing no signs of stopping. In March, they raised বী 450 million in a seed funding round that valued the company at 4 billion. In addition, they recently acquired “brand, copyright, and other IP rights” for two large NFT projects created by Larva Labs: Cryptoponks and Mibits, their 3D counterparts.
This has made Juga Labs the owner of two of the most successful NFT projects of all time. With Cryptopunks, they promised to add more “utility” to the brand, allowing those pixelated punks to reappear in various parts of the physical and digital world.
Meanwhile, on April 30, Yuga Labs sent the ‘Otherdeeds’ land sale Ethereum blockchain into a frenzy. Other works are parcels of land in Adarside, the Metavers project is currently under development. In total, 55,000 parcels of land were sold for a total of $ 320 million. Another big win for Juga Labs, though the sheer volume of traffic to Etherium increased the transaction fees that night. Learned a lesson, probably.
Indeed, board apps have already achieved a lot with their brand and the scope of the project is limited only by their own imagination and motivation to continue.
Walking around in Metaverse
We don’t currently know what the other side looks like, but we do know that it resembles a massive multiplayer online (MMO) RPG game, with a variety of places to hang out and explore the game and hang out with friends. In fact, the natural voice will be featured in the game.
Adarside’s artistic vision was revealed in an exciting teaser, and from that teaser, we know that the game seeks to support multiple NFT brands – including CryptoPunks, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Cool Cats and World of Women, to name a few.
For the otherside, Yuga Labs is partnering with game developer and venture capital company Animoca Brands, who acquired The Sandbox in 2018 and is taking major steps to develop Metavers.
Bored Apes and big brands
The most notable collaboration to date by the Board App Yacht Club has been with Adidas Originals. The fashion and lifestyle subdivision of the German sportswear giant has launched ‘Into the Metavers’ as part of their larger plan to enter Web 3 culture. The poster boy for the project was a board app # 8774 called Indigo Herz, a sporting heart-shaped shed and a green Adidas tracksuit.
NFT in Metaverse facilitates holders in the physical and digital world. These NFT holders can claim exclusive genuine merchandise and also act as your ticket on the NFT Metaverse. Specifically, you will have access to your sandbox, where Adidas is creating an enjoyable experience. What’s more, your avatar will be able to wear the exclusive, branded pair of Adidas sneakers, reminiscent of this collaboration with the Board App Yacht Club.
Defined NFT collection
BAYC holders will tell you that they are part of something that feels special and that whether you love or hate these board app NFTs, their community needs to be respected. From bizarre profile pictures to worldwide fame and recognition, these apes have penetrated our subconscious and the success of this project is proof of something profound.
It’s a celebration of creativity, of an imaginative idea, which came with a few boys hanging out at a bar and ran with it. They committed to their idea, found a great painter to make it work, and found some tech guys who could shape their vision. Rest, whatever they say, is history.
For any creative person out there, this story should be inspiring. Annoyingly Libran – always rational, easily hurt emotionally, very passionate and maybe a little too intense.
