GameStop NFT Marketplace Removes Falling Man NFT

Gamestop has removed a Falling Man NFT from its marketplace after sparking outrage and controversy in the NFT community. The NFT in question, ‘Falling Man’, resembles an image captured during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Gamestop features an astronaut in NFT with the caption, “It probably fell from the MIR station.” Before GameStop pulled the NFT from its marketplace, it was minted 25 times and initially sold for 0.65 ETH.

Following the complaint, Gamestop removed the ‘Falling Man’ NFT from its marketplace.

GameStop NFT Marketplace Removes Shocking NFTs

In 2001, terrorists from the Islamic extremist network al-Qaeda attacked the United States and changed the landscape of the 21st century. There have been four suicide attacks using commercial aircraft. A total of 2977 people died in this cowardly act and many more in the subsequent ‘war on terror’.

Associated Press photographer Richard Drew photographed a man falling to his death from the Twin Towers. Many people in the building could not escape and had to jump from hundreds of feet or wait for the fire to catch on.

The ‘Falling Man’ NFT is incredibly similar to the photograph, and many people have complained on social media about its availability on the GameStop NFT Marketplace.

Falling Man NFTs have a history of criticism

In 2001, the original photograph was not very popular. Critics called it disgusting and disturbing. Although still horrifying, the film represents the horror of the attack and the terrible choices some of the people in the building had to make. Unfortunately, the person in question could not be found or identified.

Finally, the Gamestop NFT marketplace is relatively new to the space. However, the removal of Falling Man NFT suggests that it is listening to users. It has been growing in popularity since its launch in May.

With its beta marketplace fully live, it hopes to take over the NFT marketplace space.
