Has Long NFT Artist Interview | NFT Culture | NFT News | Interviews and more
Can you tell us about your background and what led you to become an artist and finally experiment with NFTs?
My name is Hedge and I am an artist based in Malaysia. My background is in film, 3D, web programming and artistic skills.
My professional life as an artist began a decade ago as a street artist. I also regularly act as a speed painter (creating something on stage in a very short time).
In fact, I’ve even set up my own creative company that has risen to the top 5% of cradlefunds under the Coach & Grow program, which, oddly enough … caters to tech startups.
As a creative influencer, I currently have 130k listeners on my social media accounts. I am so grateful that I can use my social media platforms to give back to the community that gave me so much. Each week, I share tips and tricks for learning new strategies, as well as offering resources in a free premium model.
The concept of NFT has been around for some time. I didn’t want to jump into anything without having a clear idea of what it would look like in the long run. I want to be able to express my perspective using all my skills, traditionally and digitally, in 3D, videography, web coding and art.
The Last Dream is an ongoing NFT collection of mixed media artwork. My works of art are a statement of life, decentralized in the form of art, both virtual and reality.
Where you come from, give your background
Malaysia
What are your passions besides art?
I have been a victim of child abuse for over 20 years. The aftermath is something I’ve been dealing with for years, and it took me a long time to be effective in society. The primary call of my life is advocating for the safety of children at home and around the world.
Therefore, The Last Dream is a project that supports charities that focus on child abuse prevention, response and psychological healing.
Who are your favorite artists?
James Jean, Audrey Kawasaki
What compels you to follow the NFT industry?
Industry, coding and technology have always been a part of me.
How do you come up with your specific style?
My first step into the art world was as a muralist and street artist. But I was a commercial artist rather than a good artist. This means that I have no outlet to express my style, because I was constantly using my creative knowledge of how to meet the needs of clients. I was their brush, their palette and their painter for their ideas.
Over the years, I was inspired and could not continue. I’m tired of asking clients “any style, anything other than your style”. I started my youtube channel and I am very lucky that it got lots of subscribers. Using the support and revenue generated from the channel, I took 3 years to test the epidemic and come up with my current style.
How has your style evolved over the years?
I used as an artist to draw on the subject that other artists avoid. Content such as buildings, piles of coins, rubbish, and abstract details that others will simply turn away. The deadlines were strict, and I came up with a unique way of drawing that could not be painted.
It made me an artist who could imitate almost any style and for the longest time, it made me unable to pick and choose a style.
I was aiming for a style that was still unknown to me, the student within me who wanted to learn. This has led to chases, not to mention – artist blocks. I get artist blocks every time because I was addicted to the steep learning curve.
Today, I choose the style that makes me happiest and most productive. I ended up trying and chasing. I just want to be the most natural artist using the skills I have.
What are your other passions besides art?
There is a saying – if you are creative you can never escape being one. I love running a business, being an entrepreneur. It takes a certain common sense to be a successful business woman and I like the thrill of it.
But before I became an artist, before I became an entrepreneur … I was obsessed with math and code. My primary job choice was to be an architect, where I could marry both math and art. Although I have passed every public examination, I have not been able to get any scholarship because the government of my country supports the main nation in education. My family can afford to send me to film and animation degrees.
After I got my first class honors in film and animation, I taught myself code and worked in web development for some time before committing to my creative will.
So this NFT project, The Last Dream is one where I will use all my skills and talents. You’ll be able to find digital artwork, traditional hand-painted, and purely coded artwork. I have nothing to lose and nothing to give.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Iceland.
