Introduction to Marco Iskander, our new VP of Engineering

I am very excited to welcome Marco Iskander, our new VP of Engineering to the Open Crew.

As OpenSea matures with the entire web3 economy, we encounter fancy problems in need of unique solutions. At the same time we face the problems of high demand fluctuations, as well as unexpected technological challenges that form the basis of an entirely new Internet. In the search for this role, we found no one more enterprising, strategic, sympathetic and versatile than Marco.

Marco Iskander

Prior to GitHub, VP Engineering, he is joining OpenSea with a unique perspective on the challenges ahead. Marco has extensive experience in scaling engineering organizations: in his 4 years at GitHub, he has grown his (remote-first) team from 60 people to over 300, helping to turn GitHub actions into a fully advanced automation product, creating GitHub packages. Helped and much more. Before more Github, he held leadership positions in companies of all sizes. He was the CTO of a B2B marketing company, worked as an engineering architect at Adobe, led a team working on big data projects at a large telecom company, and even helped build a mobile security startup. But outside of his incredible background, Marco has a huge appetite for construction, growth, and problem-solving in the world of Web3.

From our first meeting, I recognized an innate reflection of the values of OpenSea in Marco: a drive for high integrity and transparency, a sense of ownership and high quality performance. As the new VP of Engineering at OpenSea, Marco will invest in cultivating excellence, building foundations and establishing practices that strengthen our engineering company and culture.

We believe that NFTs are the first killer application in blockchain. They represent the building block for the new peer-to-peer economy, where users have more freedom and ownership over their data, and developers can create powerful, inter-manageable applications to deliver real economic value to users.

We believe that eventually the physical economy will move in this direction, and it is possible that one day, almost everything we have will be in the blockchain. Over the next few years, Opportunity has the opportunity to help build a new, open, digital economy. Our vision is ambitious, and it will lead to an incredible engineering leader.

So with that, I’ll leave you with a few words from Marco: “My purpose is simple. Give direct access to creators, producers and their fans – no middle man, no organization sets the rules. Let creativity reign and let the best work grow unhindered by a system that means extracting all the profits from the creators and charging their community extra. I and everyone at OpenSea are committed to this vision and we will work hard to push it to the limit. “
