Metamansion: The Playboy Mansion in the Metaverse

Iconic lifestyle brand Playboy is building a virtual mansion in the sandbox metaverse. The iconic mansion of the legacy brand is to have a duplicate as part of Playboy’s virtual arena and continued move to Web3.

In the wake of other A-list brands, Sandbox chose Metaverse to build Playboy. Sandbox is a virtual world built on the Ethereum blockchain. Gamers in the sandbox can buy and create virtual lands and earn crypto through their gaming experience. Other iconic brands already in the sandbox include Gucci, Snoop Dogg and last week, Tony Hawk, the famous skateboarder, announced a skatepark.

Metamansion will host exclusive social gatherings, civic events, parties, live events, mini-games, futuristic NFTs and 70 years of published content to consume and browse. There is also an opportunity to be a virtual neighbor to the iconic lifestyle brand, with plans to sell the land in the 3rd quarter of the year.

Regarding Playboy and the future upcoming land sale, Sebastien Bourget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox, said:

We are excited to introduce its extensive content collection to Metaverse and enable true fans to become virtual neighbors of this iconic brand at the future land sale in the third quarter of 2022.

Invitees to the virtual mansion will be met at the gate by the Bunny Girls, who will present partygirls with VIP passes as they make their way down the red carpet, accompanied by fireworks and glitz, and into the wild party.

Playboy’s chief brand and strategy officer, Rachel Weber, said;

The culture and lifestyle of the Playboy Mansion was obviously very aspirational, so the opportunity to replicate that setting in a way that more people can now enter the virtual world is something we’re really excited to bring to life.

No date has been set for the launch of the virtual version, but we’re sure it’s on some minds over time.

Playboy ventures into Web3

Playboy previously entered the web3 space with the release of their Playboy Rabbits NFT, a collection of 11,953 unique rabbits, 3D rabbit characters. As part of the NFTs utility, owners of the digital collection will have exclusive access to the Metaverse Playboy Mansion.

Furthermore, Playboy had already entered Decentraland, where they hosted parties.

Another venture into the crypto, NFT, and virtual space is Centerfold, Playboy’s new creator platform, where Cardi B is the creative director in residence.

The Playboy development team wants to make this a truly exciting and fully immersive experience in the Metaverse.

A new parent company, PLBY, took over the iconic brand in 2021, with a focus on acquiring sexual wellness companies and branching out into Web3. Playboy released its final print magazine in March 2020.

The Hefner family and name are no longer associated with Playboy. Isolation is probably a good move, given the negative publicity generated by recent revelations around the palace.

Allegations regarding Hugh Hefner’s behavior have resurfaced in Playboy’s A&E Confidential.
