Hack the Otherside Metaverse Twitter account! probably…
The official Twitter account of BAYC Metaverse on the other side Yuga Labs appears to have been hacked following the latest SEC investigation. Bored Ape Yacht Club and Yuga Labs co-founder Greg Solano (@cryptogarga) confirmed the suspicious activity on his Twitter a few hours ago. What is going on with BAYC? Let’s dig a little deeper!
What could cause the ‘hack’ on the other side?
The Otherside official Twitter account appears to be exhibiting unusual activity. Both, the profile picture and the Twitter cover seem to have been taken down to display a blank picture. So far, no official sources from Yuga Labs, BAYC, or related partners have come forward with any knowledge of the situation.
Earlier today, the US Securities and Exchange Commission announced an investigation into BAYC. The probe seeks clarity on the regulatory norms that age digital assets as they are close to stock in nature After investigation, ApeCoin (governance token for BAYC-related projects) dropped sharply by ~12%. But what really raises questions is the mysterious ‘blackout’ of the official Otherside Metaverse Twitter account.
Yuga Labs co-founder @CryptoGarga tweeted to his followers not to trust anything from Otherside Twitter, prompting people to question whether Metaverse Twitter had been hacked.
How did crypto Twitter react?
Crypto Twitter is definitely having a field day with recent events. As with all the news that web3 absorbs on Twitter, the usual flood of memes was linked to increased awareness, questioning and outrage. The real kicker is the timing of the alleged Otherside Metaverse hack.
Some people ask if they have tried to “turn it off and on again” and others declare a complete lack of faith in the Otherside and BAYC projects. Some are even alleging the “hack” was an inside job. Either way, the situation raises eyebrows and questions across the NFT landscape. If confirmed, this will be the second time Bored Ape Yacht Club has faced hacking issues. Moreover, $100 million was also removed from Solana Defy trading platform Mango due to hackers.
