OpenSea’s delisting bug strikes again; Briefly delist Azuki NFTs

OpenSea’s now infamous ‘delisting bug’ has struck again. This time, however, it hit Azuki, temporarily delisting several Azuki NFTs from the platform. Similar situations have happened before, most notably at the Bored Ape Yacht Club this June.

Azuki is OpenSea’s #6 all-time NFT collection, based on total volume.

Azuki OpenC delisting scenario

Yesterday evening, September 30th, Azuki, one of the largest and most successful NFT collections, tweeted: “We’ve reached OpenSea Regarding the delisting email sent to Azuki holders, awaiting reply. Our working theory is that we are experiencing the same error/problem as this one (referring to the previous BAYC delisting). Check Discord for live updates, @DemnaAzuki Will update as we work to resolve this issue.”

It only took an hour and six minutes for the issue to be resolved (after the initial tweet). All the previously listed NFTs were then repatriated to the wallets of their rightful owners.

OpenC blamed the difficulty on their ‘trust and safety flagging system’, noting that it was an issue with Azuki delisting from their platform.

When this happened to the Bored Ape Yacht Club, the Yuga Labs-owned company contacted OpenC to prevent it from happening again.

This is the effect

Delisting is not a good scenario for any party, marketplace or project. For Azuki, they may raise concerns that some of their users may no longer see their NFTs. And for OpenSea, being one of the biggest projects on their platform is listed for no apparent reason. It could not be a better look.

This can lead to loss of customers for both collection and market. During delisting, buying and selling of a particular NFT collection often ceases. This can also lead to a floor price drop for collections in conversation if users continue to blame them when they have done nothing wrong.
