More than 500 new companies are working on creating Metavers
The number of companies working on Metaverse increased from 200 in July 2021 to more than 500 in July 2022, according to a new report from Newsu.
Two years ago, if we had voted for people on the street and asked them about their metavers, we could have looked a lot blank. But now, thanks to the high demand for virtual living, people are talking about it both online and offline.
The concept of 3D virtual world is becoming more and more popular day by day. So, it’s no surprise that the number of companies working on creating metavers is growing at an unprecedented rate.
Last week, Newsu published a report on Metavers, blockchain gaming and NFT where they revealed how many people are working on Metavers.
Ever since Mark Zuckerberg announced that he would rebrand his Facebook company as Meta and focus on building a 3D virtual world, the number of companies working on Metaverse has exploded.
Zuckerberg is not the only one who is interested in this new technology. Companies like Microsoft, Nintendo and Amazon are rushing to create their own versions of Metaverse. There are currently more than 500 companies operating on Metaverse, and that number is set to grow in the coming years alone.
Some are small startups and others are large corporations. How far have some companies come up with their projects? According to Newzoo, you have companies like Balenciaga, Louis Vitton, and Nike that work on virtual runway shows and turn their products into NFT.

Why did the interest increase so much?
Interest in metavars has increased significantly due to the epidemic. Because so many people are stuck at home, they are looking for ways to connect with others and have some fun. Metaverse provides a perfect solution to that problem.
It is also worth noting that the growing interest in Metaverse coincides with the growing interest in blockchain games and NFT. This is not a coincidence. The two technologies go hand in hand.
Last but not least, it is important to remember that people are actively looking for a successor to Web2 Internet. The transition to Web3 should decentralize the technology economy, changing the way brands interact with end-users and technology intermediaries.
Are blockchain games about mainstream hits?
There is no doubt that blockchain games are on the rise. The popularity of games like Cryptokitties, Gods Unchained and Decentraland is proof of that. But are they going to hit the mainstream?
Although NFTs have grown into a multi-billion-dollar market over the past year, crypto games have not yet reached that level of popularity and it is doubtful whether they will ever be.
A big problem for the crypto gaming industry is its inability to find a unique audience. You see, crypto games are still played mainly by crypto investors, trying to make a profit. Unless a large portion of non-crypto investors start playing these games, they will never reach the mainstream.
Metavers have the potential to change the way we live, work and play. We still can’t stay in the metavars full time, but we’re getting closer every day. With more than 500 companies working on Metaverse, our chances of having a Ready Player in One World are getting better in minutes.
