Polium announces ‘Polium One’: first NFT gaming console
If you’ve been waiting for an NFT gaming console, now is the time you can expect it. The Polium One system will be released by Polium, a Web 3 company, sometime in 2024 and will be “the world’s first multi-chain gaming console”. The system will be compatible with new and existing games built on several blockchains.
According to the console’s maker, “the console will be strong enough to run high-performance games and be easy to use for a traditional gamer who doesn’t understand Web 3.”
Polium One will be released in late summer / early 2024. It will only be available for pre-order for players who purchase NFT on the ‘Polium Pass’- Ethereum network with a limited supply of only 10,000 minutes.
A company statement read in part, “We are currently doing a power tree for the console board. We should have a functional prototype on or before November.
For security, the console’s controller will have a fingerprint scanner and a wallet button to give users quick access to a multi-chain wallet for the purpose of “trading, exchanging, stacking and accepting cryptocurrencies.” The console will enable 8K HDR at 120fps and enable ray tracing.
Despite the excitement of this announcement, Polyam One has met a healthy dose of criticism. From those who disagree about the effectiveness of blockchain gaming to those who believe that the whole thing is a scam.
In a huge critique, critics have pointed out that the console’s logo annoyingly looks like an up-side-down GameCube logo. In response, the company took to its Twitter account, replying, “It looks familiar, but the GameCube has a G and the Cube represents their name. Our cube represents the blockchain and P stands for Polium. “
In a separate statement on Twitter about the logo, the company said, “We did not copy the Nintendo GameCube logo. There are multiple companies that use similar logos. However, we will depict a new logo that is original. “In addition, the logo is compared to the logos of PebbleHost, a well-known server hosting service used for Minecraft, and the UK-based publisher PQube.
The Polyam Discord server also received criticism because it looked like it had been launched without any restraint. Discord’s ‘Scam Alert’ channel, a forum set up explicitly to allow users to report potential NFT scams, has seen users write “This Complete Project” about Polyam One. In the ‘Ideas and Feedback’ channel, the first comment said, “Leave the hull.”
In response to these attacks, the agency has leveled allegations of fear, uncertainty and suspicion (FUD) against its suspects. “To be clear, there are four of us who are building functional prototypes for consoles and controllers,” Polyam’s statement said.
“We’ll show the prototype live on YouTube or show you a well-trusted influencer. The prototype will prove that the console can play games on different blockchains and with different programming languages. “
