Snapchat begins testing NFT with AR functionality


as its choice Twitter and Matter Array social media subsidiaries begin testing Web3 features on their platforms, photo-sharing apps Snapchat Now the case is set to follow.

As expected, the feature will focus on integrating NFTs into users’ ‘Snaps’ (i.e. photos taken within the app), as it will allow them to Turn their NFTs into augmented reality (AR) lenses, which can be placed on real-world backgrounds within the images they capture.

Although the release date is still TBA, the new feature could be released as soon as August. That being said, and like the aforementioned efforts of other social media platforms, the launch of the feature will likely begin with a test period for a select number of users.

Of the NFT efforts of other social media powerhouses, Twitter was the first to fully democratize the feature, as in March it began allowing all its users to display their verified NFTs as profile pictures within hexagonal frames. Instagram is also testing a similar feature, while at the time of writing, Facebook is making plans for it to become one. Social Center for Web3 ongoing
