Tony Hawk Skatepark in the Sandbox Metaverse
In a recent press release, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk announced that he has partnered with Sandbox. The idea is to create ‘Tony Hawk Land’, the biggest virtual skatepark ever created in the Metaverse. A Tony Hawk 3D avatar collection will accompany the skatepark.
The project is a 3-way partnership between The Sandbox, Tony Hawk Inc. and Autograph with whom Tony has previously partnered.
As a skateboarding legend (12 World Skateboard Champions in a row) and an entrepreneur, Tony Hawk needs no introduction. his video games, Tony Hawk pro skater, with Sales of over $1.4 billion, attest to his entrepreneurial prowess.

They will build the Metaverse Skatepark on a 6×6 parcel of land in the sandbox, thus the moniker, ‘The Largest Virtual Skatepark Ever Built’. As part of the in-game functionality, gamers will be given tools to create their ramps and skating challenges and unlock digital gear.

Sandbox to host the skatepark
Sandbox, a subsidiary of the Animoca brand, is a Minecraft virtual world built on the Ethereum blockchain. Often, the gaming platform is described as part virtual real estate and part amusement park in the metaverse. It allows gamers to buy and build virtual lands and earn crypto through their gaming experience.
The Sandbox sees Tony Hawk as a perfect partner to add to the more than 300 projects including Snoop Dogg on the platform.

As part of the partnership, Sandbox will make any NFT and digital gear interoperable in the Sandbox Metaverse. They will turn the accompanying 3D avatar NFTs into 3D voxel versions. According to the press release, “3D voxel versions that add in-game functionality to the experience, utility and value for their owners.”

Tony Hawk has partnered with NFT platform Autograph in the past. Autograph is partially owned by Tom Brady and focuses on NFT collections associated with famous sports stars including Derek Jeter, Tiger Woods and Wayne Gretzky.
Autograph will design a collection of Tony Hawk 3D avatars, and his most iconic skateboards, digital gear and apparel for use in the virtual world’s biggest skate park.
One NFT from the collection is sure to be more coveted than the others, a digital replica of the skateboard he used at the 1999 X Games. The moment is etched in skateboarding history as the first time someone has successfully landed the 900, one of skateboarding’s most difficult tricks.
Dillon Rosenblatt, co-founder and CEO of Autograph said they are “thrilled to be working with Tony Hawk and Sandbox again”, to create a unique virtual experience at Metaverse Skatepark.
