Nvidia is officially all over the Metaverse
Nvidia is now officially putting all its eggs in the Metaverse basket. At SIGGRAPH, the company announced a variety of Metaverse projects they are working on.
At this year’s Siggraph, an annual conference for computer graphics, Nvidia made some serious announcements. The graphics-defining company has announced that it will focus on a range of new Metaverse initiatives.
This is a significant step, seeing as Meta already uses 16,000 new Nvidia GPUs to power its Metaverse economy.
Neural Graphics
Of course, Nvidia is mainly known for its GPUs, but one of the most exciting new Metaverse announcements from the company has to do with their Neural Graphics SDK.
The company is working on AI-powered “neural graphics”. The field of neural graphics is fairly new, and this is where artificial intelligence and computer graphics intersect.
Once fully deployed, neural graphics will be used to render and simulate a realistic 3D world inside a computer. Developers can access this functionality through various SDKs, including the newly released NeuralVDB.
Avatar Cloud Engine
Another interesting tool mentioned at the conference is Omniverse ACE. Now, ACE stands for Avatar Cloud Engine. It is a set of cloud-based services and AI models that will be used to create realistic 3D avatars.
This is an important development because, for the Metaverse to succeed, it needs realistic avatars that users can identify with. ACE combines several cutting-edge AI technologies that allow developers to create digital assistants that can pass the Turing test.
The technology was built on top of the Unified Compute Framework. The framework is still unavailable to the general public; However, Nvidia plans to release it later this year.
Also, Nvidia has also released a new version of Omniverse. The USD platform gives talented developers a complete toolkit to build Metaverse-enabled apps. It even comes with an engine that enables developers to run fully rendered virtual worlds.
But how many 3D artists and gods will accept it? That is the big question. At first, we likely won’t see widespread adoption of the platform. But, as Metaverse gains more traction, we expect more people to use it.
Importance of this announcement
Well, why is all this so important? There is a lot of news that comes out of SIGGRAPH every year. So, what makes Nvidia’s announcements different? It’s simple – they signal a major change in how the company Metaverse Development.
According to Rev. Labaredian, vice-president of Omniverse and Simulation Technology, this SIGGRAPH conference could go down in history. He recently said that 2022 could be the biggest year for computer graphics since 1993, when the seminal Jurassic Park came out.
The point of all these announcements is that they show how seriously Nvidia is taking the Metaverse. This is not some small side project; It is a full-fledged venture in which the company invests a lot of time and resources.
Of course, Nvidia is just one company. However, its announcements at SIGGRAPH show that Metaverse technology is starting to get the attention it deserves from some of the biggest names in the industry.
Nvidia is fully committed to the Metaverse, it’s only a matter of time before other companies follow.
