Twitter suspends ‘Crypto Bunda’ NFT project for “adult content”.
Crypto Bunda, an upcoming NFT project, has been suspended by Twitter for what the social media giant calls ‘adult content’, related to its profile banner. The account behind the project, named ‘CryptoBunda’, was given a formal notice yesterday, and it is unclear whether they will get the account back in the future. The project, a collection of 6000 cartoon bums, is launching soon, so it’s a huge push Social media is a huge factor in the success of an NFT collection, and Twitter suspending them can cause serious problems.
What is Crypto Bunda?
Crypto Bunda is a collection of 6000 digital cartoon bums on the Ethereum blockchain, created by ‘Fire in the Spoof’ animators. Notably, Fire in the Spoof is a collective of talented illustrators, animators and lyricists from the UK who create parody videos on YouTube.
Crypto Bunda NFT project aims to celebrate women’s bodies. In fact, they believe they are getting unfair treatment from Twitter.
In an exclusive statement to NFTvening, Crypto Bunda project manager Lara said, “I am totally shocked that in today’s world where people, especially women are constantly fighting for their rights and yet we are shut down again and again. This art does not violate anything. This is a collection of cartoon bums that the team had fun creating. It’s about celebrating the female body and having fun with digital art. Where is the need for crime or censorship? If we are prevented from sharing art, then something is seriously wrong!
Twitter’s suspension of NFT projects highlights a broader problem
The Crypto Bunda team received official notification of their suspension on Thursday, September 29th. Twitter has suspended the account ‘Violating Twitter’s rules, especially for profile headers’.
The cartoon bum image above isn’t very clear and is far from the worst thing on Twitter. Surprisingly, this is what caused the account to be suspended.
Does this deserve a Twitter suspension?
Unfortunately, there are some really awful things on Twitter and a lot of adult content is freely available. In terms of NFTs, numerous hackers and scammers are also on the platform. These accounts manage to avoid suspension and avoid bans.
Lara added, “The inspiration comes mainly from women working in music videos like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, and if we can’t divide art based on music culture, that’s a serious red flag. What if they ban these music videos?”
Crypto Bunda is appealing his suspension on Twitter
The Crypto Bunda team told us they will fight the suspension and have already launched an appeal. Moreover, the team continues to work non-stop on the project.
Currently, they are also working on a crypto bunda clothing range and in the future, the team wants to work with domestic abuse and mental health charities.
Finally, it will be interesting to see if Crypto Bunda regains access to their Twitter account. To many, this will serve as an example of the power of social media and Twitter’s control over it.
