To launch an MLB NFT baseball fantasy game in Sorare
The hugely popular fantasy football (soccer) blockchain game, Sorare, is set to expand and launch a baseball / MLB version of their game. Only going to football, where they got support from 247 clubs, which they now cover. These come either through private club partnerships or through partnerships with a league, such as Major League Soccer.
Soror’s new MLB game
Earlier this week, Sorare announced that it had signed an agreement with both Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Players’ Association. Their plan is to launch a new baseball fantasy sports game. It builds on their already successful football game, which covers world football. This is the first new game to be launched in Sorare since the start of football in 2019.
Like the football version, the MLB game will allow users to trade different collectible cards from players in the respective league as Ethereum NFTs. Also, users will be able to buy and sell items in the market. In addition, add players to their fantasy lineup with the goal of earning points each week. To be clear, the points are based on the players’ real-life MLB performance.
Players like football are going to come in different rarities. The more popular a player is in real life, or the rarer their card, the more expensive it will be.
Sorority work is underway in the NFT industry. However, apparently, they aim to maintain a style similar to their football NFT.
Tony Clarke, executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), said: “We are very excited about our partnership and Soror’s first entry into North American sports will have an impact on the growth of our game worldwide.”
NFT history of MLB
Prior to their latest deal with Soror, MLB and Topps built NFTs on the WAX blockchain on their own platforms. Their goal was to become environmentally friendly.
NFTs on this platform replicate tops baseball cards in real life. Baseball cards are historically the largest and most popular collectibles. Also, they have seen millions of collectors over a period of decades. Tops’ first real-life baseball cards were made in 1951, 70 years ago.
Also, several individual teams have released their own NFT.
What is SoRare?
SoRare is a fantasy sports game on the Ethereum blockchain. They partner with clubs and leagues, mainly in football. And now through their new partnership with MLB in baseball. Each trading card on the platform is Ethereum NFTs. To be clear, users can buy and sell in their marketplace and add players to their fantasy team with the goal of earning points based on real-life performance in their respective leagues.
The rarity and popularity of each player reflects their value in the market, with some popular players reaching thousands of dollars, such as Lionel Messi’s first card, which sold for 11,000.
