Samsung Launches ‘Space Tycoon’ As Metaverse Contributions Continue

Samsung has joined the ranks of other major tech companies by creating a new metaverse gaming playground titled “Space Tycoon.” The South Korean tech giant continues to pour money into the meta-space. Some see the move as somewhat surprising after a string of related activity in the past few weeks.

Built inside Roblox’s Metaverse platform, the game offers users multiple options in terms of experience and development. For example, gamers can create their own Samsung products and use them to interact with others in this virtual environment.

Aimed mainly at the Gen Z crowd, Samsung says the Tycoon will “offer Gen Z a new playground they’ve never experienced before.” The statement came from Jinsu Kim, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Corporate Design Center.

Unlimited possibilities

Space Tycoon is designed as a playground where many customers can experience the limitless possibilities of virtual spaces,” said Kim. “We wanted to give our Gen Z customers the opportunity to experience Samsung products in a way they never have before. We are both our present and future. We will continue to showcase content that can provide a more meaningful and entertaining digital experience for consumers.”

The playground is designed as a space station inhabited by alien characters. The station consists of a mining area where materials are collected to create new products, a research laboratory where products are made, and a shop to sell new products. In terms of the overall design and functionality of the playground, the ‘Tycoon’ business simulation genre has some clear tips to cap.

Users can design a variety of products from phones to TVs to appliances using mined resources. Players can also buy and upgrade items. You can even take a simple item, say a phone, and make it into a different gadget For example, the foldable smartphone Galaxy Z Flip can turn into a scooter, the Jet Bot vacuum cleaner can turn into a hoverboard, and The Cero Lifestyle TV can turn into a one-person helicopter.

As of now, around 20 Samsung products are available in stores. The colors of these products will change randomly as users reach new milestones and achieve new levels New series of products are updated regularly.

The platform will launch in 14 languages, including Chinese, Spanish, French, Korean and English. Other features will let users interact with each other, share their creations, and join exclusive virtual parties, though those elements are set for a later release.

Samsung will host dedicated, less exclusive events online through Samsung.com under the hashtag #YouMake campaign that focus on coloring and collecting its products.

This marks a busy time in Samsung’s Metaverse. A few weeks ago, it announced that it will participate in CES 2022 and integrate many applications like GeForce Now, Xbox and Stadia on its TV through Gaming Hub. Additionally, Samsung has invested in Planetarium Games, a blockchain game company.
