All White Males: Evidence Opens on Overcoming Stereotypes
Unfortunately, the “crypto bro” stereotype is not entirely without traction. As of writing, the majority of people active in the web3 space are men, and the NFT space should do more to promote black artists.
But now, Web3 companies are paying attention. Some seem to be adopting policies focused on accountability. And Proof is one of the most prominent Web3 players trying to do that.
If you haven’t heard of this group, you definitely know their work: Proof is the brand that runs Proof Collective, the exclusive members-only NFT community behind Moonbirds, Oddities, Grail, and other projects. Recently, the company announced that it welcomed seven Web3 organizations to the Moonbirds community with a gift of 400 Oddities NFTs, according to information now shared with NFTs by Amanda Gadbo Proof, head of culture and community.
In an effort to better align with the values of diversity, equity and inclusion that the broader NFT community has criticized the team for lacking, the evidence has been selected. Endowment, Unicorn DAO, 50 mm joint, [email protected], Human DAO, DekaAnd In the buffet To be a recipient of NFT.
The 400 audits that evidenced the organizations, all of whose missions are philanthropic and focused on equal opportunity for historically marginalized groups, came from 400 Moonbird holders who did not “nest” their NFTs and, therefore, were ineligible for an audit.
Nesting a Moonbird means that the NFT is “locked” and cannot be traded. Staking a Moonbird NFT is a way that Proof encourages its NFT holders to stick around and actively participate in the community.
Increasing diversity on the Web3
“One of the criticisms we got was that, because we didn’t go through the general approval process for Moonbirds, only people knew that [the collection] Anyone who is actually dialed into the proof network is coming,” Gadbo explained in an interview with NFT. “And it was a very narrow window of people who were able to see it. And often, these narrow groups of people all look the same — they’re all usually white men.”
Gadbo elaborates that, as a global brand that values diversity, Proof co-founder Kevin Rose brainstormed ways to address these concerns and achieve the company’s internal goals to make their NFT community as diverse and uplifting as possible.
“When I joined the company, I took all the comments, all the commentary, all the criticism and said, ‘Let’s actually lead this community with some initiative,'” Gadbo continued. “There are many ways to do this – this NFT giveaway was one of those ways.”
This move could be an encouraging step towards aligning a collection of the most exclusive institutions in the NFT ecosystem to more inclusive standards. With the help of co-founder Justin Meizel and the rest of the Proof team, Proof has grown into an absolute juggernaut of a Web3 player. Moonbirds launched on April 16, 2022 This collection took the NFT world by storm, launching itself into the top 10 highest-grossing NFT projects of all time less than a week after its release.
When asked how he identified the seven Web3 communities that Evidence Audits donated to, Gadbo said he wanted to make sure the organization chose groups that were truly dedicated to making Web3 more accessible to marginalized communities.

“Before I started working at Proof, I co-founded a small group Token Club, which focuses on uplifting and empowering marginalized communities in the space,” Gadbo said. “The idea of making Web3 more accessible to women is something that is very important to me. I have taken the time to confirm these seven sects [inhabited that spirit]”
Gadbo is well aware that the gifting may come across as a one-off PR stunt to create optics proof to avoid further criticism of this kind. But he believes this is not the case.
“The ultimate goal is to expand our network and create more awareness of our brand,” Gadbo said “One of the big things we’re doing is making sure we maintain our relationships with all of these members.” Namely, [email protected], which is “a team of black creators in space. By bringing them into our world, we have been able to take a look at something [Web3] We had meetings to explore tools that the community was building, and now we might be able to use some of those tools in our community.”

Gadbo also said that the company has seen promising signs of collaboration and interaction in the weeks since Proof presented audits to seven organizations.
“It’s been great to see people come,” Gadbo noted. “One of the chats we have in the Moonbird Lounge is called Ladybird. And come to be able to see all the BFF people and so get hugs. We don’t have many women in Moonbird. But they want to be able to grow and expand their reach. And now we have more people who do [otherwise] There would have been no chance to come in.”
Importantly, he continued, the idea is to expand the community and keep it going. Proof plans to keep communication channels open and asks these seven communities to be on the lookout for more communities in the Web3 space that they believe are doing well. Through this partnership, Gadbo explained, the company wants to help create the alternative NFT space that “we don’t normally see.”
Whether the evidence makes good on the commitment to embrace diversity in the long run remains to be seen. In any case, as a new global infrastructure for the Internet, Web3 needs more diverse initiatives, which means we need more people like Gadbow, who recognize that small steps on these issues are critical to bigger picture changes for the better.
