This is every NFT holder’s worst nightmare; Hacking their asset wallets and losing their NFTs to thieves. Unfortunately for its CEO Steven Galanis CameoThis nightmare became a reality.

The CEO tweeted on August 7, 2022 that his Apple ID had been hacked. After gaining access to his account, thieves stole his bored app #9012, Over $9,000 in $APE tokensand 3 lands in the Otherside Metaverse among others.

Lost NFT

His initial tweet was sent in response to a bot account that tweeted about NFTs, which he bought for $319,500. He later went into detail about his loss.

My Apple ID has just been hacked. So far I’m out of my @BoredApeYC, over 9k in $APE, 3 @OthersideMeta plots, 1 Phanta Bear, and 2 @11CaptainsClub NFTs” his tweet said.

Until now, OpeSsea has frozen NFT assets so it cannot be resold on the platform. Meanwhile, Galanis tagged members of both Age Labs (Bored Ape’s parent company) and OpenSea teams hope to resolve the issue.

Sadly, these types of hacks and thefts are not uncommon in industries and especially those that hold valuable assets such as Bored Ape is targeted at NFTs. Comedian Seth Green, for example, had several annoying app NFTs stolen and paid a small fortune to recover them. Often, these attacks are done through phishing schemes or outright hacks, as in the case of Galanis.

At the time of writing, Galanis is still trying to resolve the issue and recover his assets.
