OpenSea invests $100k to bring new NFT industry to life with FWB DAO
OpenC is partnering with Friends with Benefits (FWB) DAO to curate The Flock — an “immersive gallery exhibition” and “curatorial initiative,” according to a press release shared with the nft. A Glimpse, Celestial Exhibition, one-on-one NFT series will feature works by artists such as Ayaka Ohira, Case Simmons, Vivian Fu and more.
It won’t be just any launch though. Initially, the collaboration will see OpenSea’s homepage completely taken over by FWB DAO, who will showcase its slate of up-and-coming Web3 artists on the site’s front page. Prior to this instance, the works featured on OpenSea’s homepage had never been curated by a third party. Notably, a former OpenSea employee leveraged the homepage curatorial facilities of Web3’s largest NFT marketplace in the highest-profile case of insider trading in the NFT space.
OpenSea’s collaboration with FWB extends beyond just these front-page benefits. In support of FWB’s mission to guide the future of Web3, OpenSea has allocated a $100,000 commissioning fund to be used by FWB’s curatorial team to create new art. These funds will be “shared between artists across the traditional art world and the NFT space, helping them bring new creative works to life,” according to the press release.
Given FWB’s status as a DAO — which counts artists such as Erykah Badu, Azealia Banks and David Rudnick among its members — the collaboration with OpenSea was voted community-wide to approve, garnering 98% of the voting community’s support in the process. The decentralized nature of collection curation sets a promising precedent for “how exhibitions and collections are created and maintained on the Web3.”
The Flock is also set to launch FWB Fest – a Web3 conference and festival experience taking place August 12 through August 14 at the Idyllwild Arts Academy in Idyllwild, California. Headlining the event’s music festival are Pussy Riot, Oneotrix Point Never, Weyes Blood, and more.
