The phygital ring will be sold as part of Sotheby’s NY “Art as Jewelry as Art” auction

Sotheby’s NY “Art as Jewelry” sale will be the first auction to include phygital rings. Designed exclusively by MetaGolden’s Francine Ballard for this upcoming sale, buyers of this gold-and-emerald ring will own it both in the physical world and in the metaverse.

Each NFT sold during the auction is paired with a physical “Ethereum Expedition” ring. The piece itself is inspired by the intercontinental rocket launch that may soon be in our near future. It resembles a miniature geodesic dome, patented by Buckminster Fuller and adopted in design by David Webb.

According to MetaGolden, pairing digital with physical doubles the customer’s investment. This is because assets in both the gold market and the ever-expanding NFT market will appreciate independently of each other.

According to Sotheby’s NY, the piece “speaks directly to a nouveau assemblage of collectors” who understand that blockchain is bringing about a cultural revolution. Therefore, this ring symbolizes the “blueprint of the transit of eminent astrologers”.

The online auction will be held from 24 September to 4 October 2022. Works will also be on view at Sotheby’s NY New York Avenue Gallery during the same period. In addition to physietal rings, the auction will also feature jewelry by some of the greatest artists of the 20th century.

About Sotheby’s NY “Art as Jewelry as Art” auction

Sotheby’s NY auction “Art as Jewelry as Art” brings together a variety of works by major artists who have explored the world in miniature. It presents 150 works of art that collectors can wear as accessories or exhibits as part of a personal collection.

The auction includes iconic pieces by some of the best artists of the modern art movement. These include pendants by Picasso, earrings designed by Dali and a necklace brooch by Man Ray, to name a few. Contemporary design is just as current, with works by Tom Otterness, Jean Bozio, Suzanne Sage and other artists.

“Nowadays, collecting art is often seen as an investment. The works assembled here are indeed wise investments as most are either unique pieces or small editions. They are scarce and will only become more so,” said Tiffany Dubin of Sotheby’s NY.

“This selection of the artist’s jewelry is an opportunity to re-present these works to the discerning collector in a new context and as a defining category of art for a collection that is not only for decorative purposes, but much more – as a medium. of personal expression.”

The jewelry NFT sphere is undoubtedly growing. Recently, Tiffany & Co.’s NFT collection Cryptopunks NFT sold out within 20 minutes. Moreover, last year, IceCap became the first company to offer investment-grade diamonds as NFTs. These NFTs were also associated with pieces of physical jewelry such as diamond rings and necklaces.
