Lamborghini’s second ‘Epic Road Trip’ takes NFTs utility to a new level

Alpha:

  • According to information shared during an interview between Lamborghini Marketing Director Christian Mastro and nft now, Automobili Lamborghini on Monday launched the second collection of The Epic Road Trip in a campaign featuring monthly drops until March 2023.
  • The campaign was launched on August 8, 2022 in collaboration with Web3 Studio NFT PRO and INVNT.ATOM. It features an Aventador SVJ Roadster featuring four animated NFTs depicted in various scenes on the Moon and Mars. The fourth NFT in each month’s collection is a unique piece limited to only 63 editions.
  • Starting with its second collection, Lamborghini is giving its Epic Road Trip NFT new utility and convenience.

Why is this important?

This isn’t Lamborghini’s first foray into the NFT space, but it’s the biggest and most significant to date. The epic road trip will last eight months and culminate in a special release, details of which the company is keeping under wraps. Balancing that large time range is the exclusive element of only releasing four NFTs per month four days at a time.

“[At Lamborghini,] We always try to be unexpected, this is one of the values of the brand,” explained Christian Mastro when speaking to NFT Now. “For us, NFTs are one of those things that can make a really big difference in a world that’s becoming a hybrid between digital and physical. I think it’s important for owners, not just fans, to be able to enjoy Lamborghini in a different place.”

In keeping with the campaign theme, various locations provide a backdrop to the NFT animations, including outer space locations and iconic cities around the world. In a nod to the company’s founding in 1963, the three “regular” NFTs in each month’s drop will sell for $196.30, while the fourth special-edition NFT will sell for $1,963. To reward collector loyalty, those who buy all NFTs monthly (three regulars or three regulars plus a limited edition fourth NFT) will receive a special NFT at the end of the campaign.

what next

More utility. Ahead of the September drop, Lamborghini is introducing new features to the collection. Fans who purchase three sets of one month’s regular NFTs will receive priority one hour before the release of the fourth rare NFT of that month. Those who collect eight of each drop’s rare NFT will complete what the company calls a “gold” NFT puzzle to receive exclusive benefits for their owners at the end of the campaign. These collectors will also receive a Lamborghini GLB file, which enables them to “virtualize” a to-be-specified Lamborghini model in the Metaverse.

Those who purchase the two full monthly collections will receive digital artwork by Mitza Borkart, Lamborghini’s head of design, produced specifically for the campaign. For the first four months, all NFT collectors will have the opportunity to attend a special tour of the company’s Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters.

Mastro believes that the company’s January 2022 release of five Lamborghini Altima NFTs by Swiss artist Fabian Offner, in addition to the April release of 1 NFT of the latest Aventador Coupe, has helped the company understand how passionate its fan and customer base is and as a brand. That prides itself on being innovative and risk-taking, the foray into NFT was a natural for the company.

The company emphasized how valuable the Web3 medium is to a name like Lamborghini. More than an occasional publicity stunt or a revenue generator, they are a way to carry the brand into the future.

“That’s what the new generation is looking for,” Mastro explained. “I remember when I was a kid I used to collect football players and car stickers. The new generation is collecting stuff on their phones. NFTs are just as important as our other licensing business.”
