Emirates is hiring 4,000 cabin crew for Metaverse

At the Dubai Metaverse Assembly last week, the chief operating officer of Emirates, the UAE’s largest airline, said the airline would hire 4,000 cabin crew to train on Metaverse.

Even though your average person still isn’t entirely sure what the Metaverse is, how it works, or what it can be used for, that doesn’t mean others aren’t already using it. Organizations, businesses and even governments are looking into this new technology and how it can be used to improve efficiency and communication.

For the UAE, Metaverse presents an opportunity to train its workforce more efficiently and realistically.

At the Dubai Metaverse Assembly held last week, Emirates Airlines announced plans to train new hires in Metaverse. At the moment, the country’s largest airline has 16,000 cabin crew members. By the end of the year, it plans to expand to 20,000.

And those 4,000 crew members will undergo experimental training in VR. Using Metaverse and VR goggles, crew members will be able to walk through a simulated aircraft. This will help them learn everything from galley management to safety procedures.

Emirates COO Adel Ahmed Al Redha said VR is being used to simulate walking on a plane. The aim is to analyze every detail so that the airline can improve its service.

New and efficient training methods

Metaverse enables Emirates to configure the A350 and show crew members in detail what the aircraft will look like in 2024. In addition to aircraft demonstrations, the airline can train its crew in realistic simulations.

This will include emergencies that are difficult to recreate in real life. Using VR, crews will be able to experience what it’s like to deal with an unruly passenger or medical emergency.

The announcement was made at the Dubai Metaverse Assembly, a two-day event featuring more than 600 experts, 25 sessions, 30 speakers and 40 technology companies. The event was held at the Museum of the Future and focused on the possibilities of the metaverse.

Now, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Dubai’s plans for the Metaverse. Back in April, the Dubai government launched its Metaverse strategy. The goal is to increase the number of companies working in the metaverse, blockchain and crypto space.

In the next five years, Dubai plans to become a leading metaverse economy. The strategy includes several initiatives that will help the city achieve its goals.

So far, the response to Dubai’s Metaverse plan has been positive. Emirates plans to bring in engineers, scientists and other experts from around the world to work on the company’s Metaverse-, NFT- and Web3-related projects.

The company is already working on both utility-based and collectible NFTs.
