A new project uses NFTs to feed war-affected Ukrainians

In the midst of the turmoil on Ukrainian soil, ordinary citizens and the Ukrainian government are similarly using NFT auctions to quickly raise the necessary funds for ongoing humanitarian efforts.

Kyiv-based multimedia artist Alexei Kondakov is joining the ranks. With the help of Bonhams, one of the world’s longest-running auctioneers, and the cryptocurrency solution The Giving Block, he launched Reverberate Ukraine.

From desire to relief

Reverberate Ukraine is an art collection consisting of five NFTs artwork created by Kondakov. Each piece is made in Kondakov’s signature style, featuring characters from various century-old fine art paintings at the top of the modern-day Kiev scene, all taken with Kondakov’s mobile phone. Speaking about his collection in a press release, Kondakov shared, “Riverbrate Ukraine I have shown the world that it is like living in a war. It’s the only job I can do in Kiev right now. “

‘You can’t even imagine it’

Although the characters and scenes in Kondakov’s collection come from hundreds of years apart, the underlying message of each part unites everything: the pain of longing for a developed world is universal, not limited by space or time.

Kondakov hopes to help create that world through his charitable NFT launch. All proceeds from the auction will go to World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit that caters to the people of Ukraine and the displaced in neighboring countries. Founded by celebrity chef Jose Andres after the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the nonprofit has already set up and counted eight kitchens on the Ukraine-Poland border.

Long term help

Reverberate Ukraine will continue to help World Central Kitchen long after the auction ends. With The Giving Block, they will be able to send a portion of the revenue generated from the secondary sale of auctioned NFTs to nonprofits.

The project will also feature the sale of 1,000 physical prints of Kondakov’s ‘Peaceful Evening in Kiev’, where an exclusive blue version of the work will be sold once the original print is sold. Each piece will sell for 100, with all proceeds going directly to the chefs at World Central Kitchen for the Ukrainian initiative.

Kondakov believes the project should encourage someone else to do the same, noting that “I think humanity has the power to end war, by sharing love and support. That is the only way to peace. Love can heal. Care and support can melt the cold of the heart

How accessible the NFT space is for new parties to enter, theoretically, anyone can differentiate similarly with a mobile phone and good eye. The Reverberate Ukraine auction started on May 3 and will continue until May 12 Interested bidders can register to join the auction here
