NFT Worlds will develop the game after Minecraft rejects NFTs
Minecraft’s sudden announcement that NFTs are a ‘no no’ on their platform has hit NFT Worlds in the teeth. Many say this announcement shows complete disregard for all web 3 games currently built on Minecraft.
Many gamers will be over the moon with Mojang Studios’ announcement, but what about developers who have made NFTs and blockchain technology central to their games?
What about gamers and communities already engaged in games?
NFT Worlds, launching in October 2021, is one such game. Plans for Web 3-based games remain unchanged But the company has promised to continue.
A statement from the company talks about their contingency plans and a larger war in the gaming space. The statement pulls no punches about big tech corporations. It reads;
“Make no mistake. This is a Web 2 vs. Web 3 battle. It’s a battle between two different visions of the future of the Web: one that prioritizes shareholder value and profit margins above all else, and one that prioritizes the spirit of innovation through independent creators.
The Minecraft gaming platform says no to NFT
They expressed their views in a blog post. Minecraft refers to their ‘Minecraft Users Guide’. They noted that all Minecraft players must have the same functionality and content freedom.
The author then points out that NFTs can create scarcity and go against the company’s stated policy and the spirit of Minecraft. They elaborate on this by pointing out where Minecraft’s values of creative inclusion and play together, creating a safe and inclusive experience, scarcity, exclusivity and the speculative nature of NFTs are in direct conflict with blockchain.
The following snippet states it in plain terms that leaves no room for trickery;
Blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated into our client and server applications, or Minecraft in-game content such as worlds, skins, personality items or other mods may be used by blockchain technology to create a scarce digital asset.
The statements also talk about how blockchain limits long-term happiness, and the speculative value of NFTs encourages profits by creating an investment mindset. It further clarifies how NFTs create a scene of haves and have-nots
NFT Worlds rails against Minecraft
NFT Worlds does not see this move in isolation but rather as a broader conflict between Web2 and Web3. One of the founders of NFT Worlds exposed the hypocrisy of Microsoft, Mojang and Minecraft in a recent tweet regarding scarcity issues and Minecraft standards.
The same company that prioritizes “inclusion” and hates “insufficiency” launches limited edition, gated merchandise to its community.
There is a common thread here: corporate greed and control. https://t.co/qPsxAHpY97

What is NFT Worlds?
The project sees itself as a “truly decentralized, cross-platform (computer/console), community-driven and developed play-to-earn gaming metaverse”. It consists of 10,000 3D voxel NFT worlds, each developing its vision using the Ethereum blockchain.
“We see a future where each world offers unique gameplay mechanics, experiences, in-game competitions, community hangouts, and more,” the game’s document states.
It was like that before, but what now?
Can NFT Worlds Come Back?
The game was performing well as a Minecraft client, with statistics from April showing over 64,000 players (34,000 new to the blockchain), 250,000 player hours, and 960,000 in-game WRLD tokens. We don’t know how much this will affect the game, but we do know that the value of the token has dropped from $0.032 to $0.015.
It won’t be easy to come back from here. NFT Worlds clearly states in their documentation page,
“We didn’t want to reinvent the wheel by building our own unproven game from scratch, but also innovate on the NFT integration and decentralized metaverse side of our envisioned platform.”
However, the party is not willing to throw in the towel. They indicate a determination to continue building a free-to-play metaverse with NFTs.
Already they are “assembling a team of top visionary developers within the Minecraft development ecosystem.” They also mention the full support of everyone in our community. They also say that what always goes a long way to success or failure is money. According to the statement, they have a ‘war chest’ to fund them to see them through.
Think later
Big web2 corporations like Microsoft Minecraft and Mojang are on top of it all until we have real decentralization. They have all the firepower, even when fact-checked to create scenarios of haves and have-nots.
We want to send our support to all of our communities affected by those projects and Minecraft’s decisions Keep fighting.
