NFT Artist Interview by Emily Lazar | NFT Culture | NFT and Crypto Art Interviews and more
Emily Lazar is a multi-disciplinary artist fronting the rock/metal transmedia project, September Moring, who made history by being the first female metal/hard rock musician to sell an NFT. He has spoken about his achievements in Web 3/ NFT at Harvard (2x), NFT.NYC and ETH Denver conferences.
September Mourning is based on a comic book series he wrote and published through Image/Top Cow Comics with his business partner Marc Silvestri (Batman/Witchblade/Darkness). He played the title role on stage.
Emily designs the world that she and her band bring to life on stage, including costumes, choreography, sets, etc. He has toured and opened festivals in Europe and the US for Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot and others.
As a verified NFT creator in the Open C, he has been a top 40 NFT musician every week for a full year and remains on the charts to this day. As of now, he has 567 collectors.
Her NFTs Emily Lazar – September Mourning: The Soul combine music, animation, storytelling and art in a curated collection.
His latest project, the sold-out “September’s Monsters,” permanently connects music and graphic novels to collectibles using generative art NFT as a music and art distribution vehicle for September Mourning. PFP also unlocks IRL concert opportunities such as tickets, meets and special merchandise, future Metaverse utilities and gaming. A billboard in Times Square NYC features one of his monsters.
She also launched a collection called “The Pixie Girls” based on her Pixie Girls paintings and sold every drop. To promote education in the space, the collection offers one-on-one Zoom calls to its collectors to ask and discuss anything related to NFT or music.
When did you mint your first NFT? Which platform did you choose and why?
I was the first female rock/metal musician to mint and sell an NFT at Open Sea in March 2021… I knew Devin (Owner of Open Sea) from the clubhouse and he actually came to my room for a drop! https://ift.tt/cA8QyX5
Can you tell us one thing you can’t live without? (and why)
Industry…. Emotional response through art is my reason for living
Who is your favorite artist(s) (NFT)? What about their style resonates with you?
Painting: Caravaggio … because of his mastery of light and dark/dramatism
Who is your favorite NFT artist? What makes this artist unique?
Sabet … I love the world of women she has created with her daughters… and now exploring different subjects under her signature aesthetic is very inspiring.
What made you pursue the NFT industry?
We were unable to tour during the pandemic. I wanted to figure out a way to sustain this trans media project through different revenue streams. Direct to consumer/blockchain technology is the future of industry and commerce combined IMO.
What is an NFT you want to buy but miss out on?
Bored Ape lol
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go? Why this position?
Paris. Never been and always wanted to go since I was little.
What are your other passions besides art? Why?
Music, dance, writing, storytelling… I believe creating worlds is very important. To take someone on a journey outside of their everyday reality… to inspire… to evoke emotion and purpose on occasion… to disturb someone’s perspective… all these things and more.
Do you create other forms of art?
I was a pro ballerina for a while then a pro musician, published author, illustrator and now NFT creator. I am a world builder.
Are you self-taught or trained?
Mostly self taught but I definitely trained in ballet and I took voice lessons to improve my range.
How do you come up with your specific style?
I am in love with Tim Burton and the worlds he creates… my Pixie Girls NFT reflects this. As far as the September Mourning/September Monsters collection… those come from years of reading comic books and loving the art in that style from different artists.
How has your style evolved over the years?
Yes… The more I see in this world the more I am inspired to experiment
What is coming in the near future?
Another collection of September Monsters, 3 new graphic novels, a new album and lots of touring… plus performing at the Web 3 conference afterparty in Miami at Art Basel!
If you could collaborate with one artist, who would it be? (and why)
I … Avenged Sevenfold’s ThankUX, BT and MShadows would also be a dream collaboration!
What was your biggest failure and what did you learn from it?
I’ve signed a few times to different labels advertising each time I didn’t trust my gut, things went awry. Always trust your instincts as an artist. If you fail, let it be your terms and your lesson. Fail upwards.
What is your biggest selling piece?
I sold a piece of my September Mourning Spirits collection on the 1st … very proud moment
How much was sold for?
Over 1 eth!
Do you have any upcoming drops?
Yes. Sound XYZ collaborations with Wes Henry, September’s Monster’s new collection and an insane Async drop!
