AI-Generated Beauty Shoot ‘Bio Resonance’ by Fashion and Beauty Artist Terry Gates

The photo series, themed ‘Bio Resonance’, features an AI metahuman created by artist Terry Gates with a CGI face that fuses elemental, spawn-like elements with cut minerals — examining what it means for a real, elemental self to rush into the metaverse.

The images are produced by Midjourney, a program that runs through a Discord server and generates images based on text prompts uploaded by Gates. Aiming to discover images that are both beautiful and curious, the program generated more than 1,000 images, and a final selection of nine images is featured in Bio Resonance.

“I was looking for pretty pictures rather than pretty faces,” Gates shared. “I’m not sure if artificial intelligence will change the way we understand beauty, I think it’s more because art and art can certainly inspire different beauty trends. I think the power of this medium is the power of imagination and it can enhance our imagination. I hope people find some beauty in the strangeness of these images, and if that somehow translates into self-acceptance, the machines have taught us something valuable.

To showcase dressmaking in a new paradigm of digital clothing as a celebration of the ‘New World of Vogue’, Chinese-born designer Imeng Yu has created three virtual dresses just for Vogue.

Inspired by a fictional world in deep space, Yu’s pieces are the result of using five software, involving an algorithm-assisted generative process, that controls variables from body-building and clothing fit to rendering and fitted composition — tapping into homages to fabric and silhouette. Due to the arbitrary nature of surrealism which is a challenge to achieve in the real world.

“Virtual materials that completely break the limitations of the physical world give me complete creative freedom,” shares Yu. “My hope is that innovation in this space will spark new technology, new culture and new spirit in the fashion industry.”

Spatial.io has partnered with Ready Player Me for more varied and realistic avatar customization. Those who visit the space can try on Yu’s digital outfits for Vogue against a virtual backdrop for a photo opportunity. REBIRTH and NIRVANA from Yu’s collection for Vogue are available at no cost via https://ift.tt/FBVsCDz.

Readers can explore the space by scanning the QR code in the September issue or searching for Vogue Singapore on Spatial.io. The virtual world will be launched in two phases with the first part on 5 September 2022, 10AM SGT / 4 September 10PM EST and the next chapter will be active on Vogue’s second anniversary issue in October 2022.
